mapin it out
oh the mapping project, you know i dont understand why we had this project more recently then towards the beginning of the semester.... when we had time. but whatever we gave it our all i suppose. i am going to critique my groups map, the constellation map. i think we had a funky fresh idea, as for originality the whole string and pins thing has been done, but i thought it looked cool as well as the border, except for the pencil lines. our pictures were super lame quality could have been way more wicked, but thats a time crunch for ya. oh well life goes on, and hopefully will see some awesome artist books if anybody has time :)

midway
so walking into to midway, immediately fell in love larry Clarks' Tulsa. the images are so raw and pure. i love what he's trying to do, they way he portrays drug abuse is beautiful. its so somber. i couldn't take my eyes off of it, i kept gravitating back to it. what i didn't gravitate too, was Gedi Sibony's Remaining, it was boring lifeless, no vision. i don't understand it, it makes me mad of all things, mad that this is in an art gallery, and possibly someone's home..... why? why and how is this art, i think my macaroni on paper plates in kindergarden had more vision.

so for my installation piece, i chose to take human faces from a number of different exhibits. the human face can be portrayed in a number of ways, and i love that. our faces are the essence of our being, our identity. i would have a variety of pictures, painting, masks, sculptures. i would make everyone wear a mask to my exhibit. i love faces. file:///Users/lainapetersonn/Desktop/mia_26868g.jpgfile:///Users/lainapetersonn/Desktop/mia_11909h.jpgfile:///Users/lainapetersonn/Desktop/mia_31366g.jpgfile:///Users/lainapetersonn/Desktop/09-jackson-Hoodie.jpg

postmodern standpoint
i saw the quick and the dead at the walker, i immediately fell in love with Adrain piper's, what will become of me. her piece consists of clear glass jars, containing her hair and fingernails, she's collected. her vision in this piece is to preserve herself, and eventually have her cremated remains among the jars. when i first saw this piece, it shocked me and almost scared me. however after thinking about it, i see no better way to preserve yourself. i think she is brilliant and daring. it takes some serious guts, to put your fingernail clippings in a jar. this piece is pushing the envelope, and challenging modern day society. i think what will become of me, is the epitome of postmodernism.
